About Siargao
Siargao is a teardrop-shaped island located on the northeastern coast of Mindanao. It is best known for its reliable surfing conditions all year round, which have earned it the title of the "Surfing Capital of the Philippines." Thanks to its reliable surfing weather, it has become a great surfing spot for both veterans and beginners.
Among its various surfing spots, Cloud 9 is considered the most popular of all. It has also gained worldwide recognition due to its thick, hollow tubes and fast-barreling right-hand waves that break over a reef.
Aside from its surfing areas, Siargao Island also boasts white sand beaches, picturesque islands, azure waters perfect for snorkeling and diving, waterfalls, lagoons, and caves.
Siargao Island is accessible via Sayak Airport (IAO), commonly known as Siargao Airport, a 10-minute drive from the municipality of Del Carmen and a 40-minute drive from the main tourist town of General Luna.
Since most of Siargao's best tourist attractions and activities are located outdoors, access to them largely depends on weather conditions. To ensure that you get the most out of your visit, it is best to plan your vacation during the dry months November to May.
Must Visit Places in Siargao
Siargao Island has a lot more to offer. Here are tourist spots that you should visit:
- Cloud 9 - is one of the most popular spots to hang out at, surf or watch the pros do their thing. You’ll find this one at the northern end of General Luna.
- Maasin River - has become a famous Siargao tourist spot for its bent palm tree rope swing. If you hit search on Siargao on any social media platform, you’ll likely see reels and photos from this particular spot.
- Daku Island - is the largest island of the three main islands just off the coast of General Luna, featuring a reaching sand spit and a dense forest of coconut palm trees.
- Guyam Island - is one of the favorite tourist spots on Siargao. You can walk around this epic little sandbar island in under 5 minutes. It’s complete with white sand beaches, dense coconut trees and a tiny little basketball hoop in the centre.
- Naked Island - is the third tourist island off the coast of General Luna and has absolutely no vegetation and is nothing more than a small sandbar surrounded by tropical blue waters.
- Sugba Lagoon - These blue lagoons are seriously something from another world, discover magical emerald green and blue lagoons to swim at. There’s also a famous diving board, some cliff jumps as well as SUPs and kayaks to rent at the floating hut.
- Sohoton Cove - is an adventure playground, featuring caves, incredible blue lagoons and lush, rolling mounded hills and islets.
- Magpupungko Rock Pools - feature a series of natural tidal pools that are incredibly blue. At low tide, people find deep pools to swim in. There are also large boulders around the pools that one can climb and jump from.
- Tayangban Cave Pool - is an awesome little micro-adventure located near Pilar (just 10 minutes from Magpupungko Rock Pools). You’ll find this off-the-beaten-path Siargao tourist spot just off the Circumferential Road.
- Secret Beach - this beach used to be unknown but is now quite popular, especially with beginner surfers. That’s because the surf is much more tame but consistent, with small rolling sets coming through all day. The mountain rises to a height of 210 meters and offers spectacular panoramic views of Coron and the surrounding islands.
